Plainly put

A classroom, not a data collection.

Stillroom uses only the information needed to provide your account, classes, live sessions, chat, attendance, and safety controls.

What we store now

  • Your account name, email address, profile picture, and a unique sign-in identifier.
  • Classes you create or join, including their title, invitation details, status, and relevant dates.
  • Entry requests and the teacher’s approval, rejection, removal, or blocking decisions.
  • Temporary connection information needed to enforce classroom capacity and remove access when required.
  • Classroom chat content, sender display information, message time, and moderation status.
  • Attendance information such as join and leave times, reconnects, and approximate connected duration.
  • Limited security and reliability information needed to prevent abuse and keep the service working.

Sign-in and cookies

Your sign-in provider shares only the basic account details needed to identify you. Essential secure cookies keep you signed in. Stillroom does not request access to your files, contacts, calendar, or location, and it never receives your sign-in password.

Camera, screen, microphone, and live media

Teachers preview their camera locally or explicitly select a tab, window, or screen in the browser’s sharing picker before choosing Go live. Only the selected video and microphone are shared; tab and system audio are not captured. Students do not provide camera or microphone access.

Live audio and video are processed by a real-time media provider only to deliver the class. Stillroom does not record live sessions. The public preview pages use illustrations and do not capture media.

Classroom chat

During a live class, the teacher and approved connected students can post plain-text messages visible to the classroom. Messages are saved so participants who reconnect can receive the current class history.

The teacher can pause student posting and remove messages. Removed messages no longer contain their original text or public sender details. Chat remains stored until the class owner deletes the class. Deleting an account removes that person’s chat content and identity while preserving an anonymous deletion marker. This cannot retract text another participant already copied or captured.

Attendance

Attendance begins only when a student connects to a live classroom. Stillroom records join and leave times, reconnects, and approximate connected duration. Opening an invitation page does not create attendance, and Stillroom does not continuously track browsing activity.

The class owner can see participant names for the live class and its attendance history. Other participants may receive basic display information needed for the live session, although Stillroom does not show students a class roster.

Service providers and access

Stillroom uses trusted service providers for hosting, sign-in, data storage, and live media delivery. They process information only as needed to provide those services. Class management, entry requests, attendance, and moderation controls are restricted to the class owner. A signed-in person with an invitation can see the class title and teacher’s name, but cannot enter the live classroom until approved.

What we don’t collect

Stillroom does not collect exact geolocation, contacts, browser fingerprints, unrelated sign-in account information, advertising profiles, or analytics tracking profiles. Limited security and reliability logs may include a request reference, broad error category, status, and timing, but not passwords or authentication tokens.

Managing your information

You can permanently delete an ended class from its overview; this also removes its chat and attendance history. You can delete your account from the dashboard after deleting classes you own and leaving active classrooms. Account deletion removes your profile, entry decisions, attendance, and authored chat identity/content. Anonymous deletion markers may remain so classroom history stays consistent. If deletion is interrupted, access remains locked while you safely retry. Contact the deployment operator for requests that cannot be completed through these controls.
